Casey L Grooten is a visual/performance artist, musician, and wordsmith living in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Casey received their Bachelors Degree in Creative Writing from Western Michigan University with an emphasis in poetry and world literature, and is currently working toward their Associates Degree in Graphic Design at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. They are an acting member of the Kalamazoo Poetry Festival Non Profit Board, and are assisting the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo with an up to date archive of public artwork throughout the community. Casey founded the Air Poetry Summer Reading Series at Kazoo Books, which ran for three years, and has been published by Yellow Chair Review, Five:2:One Magazine, and is a regular contributor to The Skinned Knee Collective. Casey values honesty and growth in their work, especially when it comes to ideas centered around gender and sexuality. They identify as transgender, and strive to portray an open and affirming world view in all of their artwork.
